CAMERA
How
many digital video cameras can I use with a laptop system
to capture live videos? Our systems capture one video
stream at a time. If you have a switcher, you can switch between
one stream and the other, but you can only capture one at
a time.
Can
I have the video available on two or more laptops immediately
after the game without having to digitize it twice?
Yes, using a simple crossover cable (like a network cable)
you can connect to laptops and our AutoFileCopy program will
automaticall copy the database and video files to the other
laptop. It takes about 5 minutes to move a full 3 hour game.
Can
I use any kind of digital video camera? How
are the cameras connected to the computer system? Yes,
you can use either an analog or digital camera as long as
it has an S-Video, RCA, or DV out. We recommend using a digital
camera for better quality. The camera is connected to the
ADS Instant DVD+DV box (see computer hardware link) and then
connected to the laptop via a USB cable.
What
file format does the program save the captured videos in?
The saved files are in MPEG-2 format
and are the same quality of the videos you would get at a
Blockbuster or other video store.
Can
I use analog cameras? Yes, but know
that analog cameras do not have the same resolution or detail
that digital cameras have. Your video may not be as sharp
or detailed as a digital camera.
Besides
capturing live images, can images also be downloaded from
a DV tape? What about VHS or DVD? The
process would be the same whether you take footage from a
DV tape, VHS deck, or DVD. You will hook up your video "output"
on your deck (vhs deck, dv deck, or dvd player) to the video
"input" on the ADS Instant DVD+DV box. The box then
connects to the PC via USB cable.
Can
repeaters be purchased at Radio Shack to extend cable length?
Yes, they can also be ordered through
ARK.
HARDWARE
Does
your system require any specific hardware? Yes,
our system requires the following minimum specifications.
Note: screen resolution minimum for Baseball/Softball is 1280x800.
- Windows XP-SP2 updated or Apple
with Intel Core Duo Processors
- Pentium IV (1.6 GHz), Athlon XP
(1.6 GHz), Celeron 2 (1.6 GHz) or P4M (1.0 GHz)
- 256 MB RAM
- 128 MB graphic card, resolution
1024x768, 16 bits colors (basketball, volleyball, soccer,
rugby, lacross, ARK scout)
- 128 MB grapic card, resolution 1280x800,
16 bits color (softball/baseball)
- IEEE1394 port (or FireWire or I-link),
built-in or acquisition card (for connection to video camera)
- 2 USB 2.0 ports
- S-Video or RCA Video Output
What
are the hardware requirements? You
must have an ADS Instant DVD+DV video conversion box for all
of our systems. We also recommend an external hard
drive with 250 GB of space to store all of your games.
ARK SOFTWARE
What
operating system can be used? Our system
runs from either a Windows XP Professional PC or the new Apple
with Intel Core Processors and Apple Boot Camp software.
Does
the software run on Macintosh? Yes,
see above.
How
do I get the video into the laptop? You
will hook up your video "output" on your camera
or deck (vhs deck, dv deck, or dvd player) to the video "input"
on the ADS Instant DVD+DV box. The box then connects to the
PC via USB cable. When you start our programs, you can see
the video preview on the laptop, so you know what you are
capturing.
Does
the software allow immediate playback of any captured clips
and how do I to re-edit them after they have been captured?
Yes, you can immediately view any of
your captured video. To edit them, just click on another or
different category already listed, and click the "change"
button. It's as easy and simple as that.
Can
video be automatically synchronized to the data from my SID
in the basketball program? How does that work and what do
I need to do to make sure it is accurate? Yes,
you will need to make sure you have the latest version of
the Stat Crew software. When the game is over, your SID will
give you the stat files from his computer and you will save
that file on your laptop where the video was recorded. Click
on "sync" and your video will automatically line
up with the stats your Sports Information Director marked.
To make sure it is accurate, you'll need to make sure you
re-sync after halftime.
Can
I print stats or dump them into Excel to create custom reports?
Yes.
Can
we install the software on 1 portable computer for capturing
purposes and on 2-3 desktop computers so other coaches can
analyze images and create highlights? Yes,
the Analysis portion of the product is a seperate program
and can be purchased for other machines that don't need all
the editing and capturing features.
READING FILES FROM EXTERNAL DRIVES
I understand
that images are captured live to the hard drive for reasons
of speed. Can the files be transferred to another computer
or external hard drive to free up space on my laptop or for
someone else to use? How long does that process take?
Yes, the files can be transferred to another computer or external
drive quickly and easily. If you are transferring to another
laptop or desktop computer, you will need a crossover cable
to connect the two laptops. If you are going to transfer to
the external drive, just move the whole game folder. The process
takes about 5 minutes for a 3 hour game.
